Important Tips

    • Your abstract should be like a movie trailer: A short preview that will prime your audience to read the rest of your project.
    • An abstract should be written in paragraph form
    • An abstract should be a short paragraph and no longer than a page. Try to keep it at one well written paragraph.

    • Your conclusion should be an EXTENSIVE REFLECTION of your work, thoughts, and findings.
    • You must follow the "WRAP IT UP" format from your journal to earn full credit.
    • Make sure you address how your results can be applied to real world situations...make connections and show the importance of your findings.
    • If your data showed no results, this is the place to dive deep and explain what you learned even though there were no trends. This could really help save your score as an opportunity to prove that you still learned from this experience.

    • You must have at least one computer generated graph in your final report.
    • Excel cannot graph words, so make sure all cells are numerical values
    • Do NOT graph every trial that you tested, just graph the averages/results (this will create a very clean and legible graph)

    • You must create a bibliography if you used any graphics or shared any ideas from an outside source.
    • Use what you learned in english class to help site your sources in the appropriate format
    • Put all research notes and printed pages in an organized section of your log book
    • The only people who should not have a bibliography are people with no research and people who came up with all ideas and procedures on their own with zero outside help. Everything else should be sited appropriately.

    • Complete all worksheets from the science fair packet and file them in the appropriate sequence in your log book
    • Complete all quick check rubrics from the packet and file them in the appropriate sequence in your log book
    • Your binder should contain any other artifacts, notes, or previous drafts of your work along the way (including your phase 1 write-up and warm/cool feedback chart)

District and State Timelines

Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009: ALL local fairs must register their Internal Review Board (IRB) with LPSEF. If you are unable to create these committees you may use the LPSEF SRC. **Local Fair IRB Registration for LPSEF**.

Friday, Dec. 19, 2009 : Critical ISEF (International Science and Engineering Fair) forms ONLY are due to LPSEF fair director. Critical ISEF forms are necessary when a project involves vertebrates, humans, DNA, tissues, pathogenic or controlled substances. These forms must be typed. Handwritten forms will not be accepted.

Friday, Jan. 8, 2010: Critical ISEF forms will be returned with SRC comments.

Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010: LPSEF registration due.

Monday, March 1, 2010: Longs Peak Science and Engineering Fair

April 8-10, 2010: CSU - Ft. Collins **Colorado Science and Engineering Fair**
May 9-14, 2010 (ISEF). San Jose, CA International Science and Engineering Fair
